Twinaxle Convoy!
|
Four cars drove down - Me, Tom, Adam (Plus Briony)and Peter. We all met at Clacketts at 12:30 and set off, arriving before 18:00,
we had a few stops for a leak and diesel (LPG for Tom) and pitched up in good light, if a little windy. Then it was off to the pub
(nearly hitting a quad with bloke and a blonde hacking up the middle of the road). The return drive up to Westerfield Farm was a
little more eventful. I thought the locals were taking the piss when we came upon a POLICE STOP sign blocking the road, Tom got
out and moved it to one side and I drove though, only to see the glow of a Policemans coat coming towards us. It turns out the
quad rider we saw earlier had droped off his girlfriend, then nearly had a fatal in the lane.
The camp site was in good order except the showers - they are solar heated and managed only a tepid flow. A few sheep were wandering
around the field in the day which made trips to the wash block interesting - avoiding their deposits.

90 On The Rocks.

Though 4 drove down, only 3 drove the lanes. Tom read the maps while I drove the red bus. (I think Tom wanted to save the bother of
cleaning the lightweight with buckets of water - due to the hose pipe ban, mind you plenty of water in Somerset)
No anti's to be seen in Exmoor, we only had to back up once for a pair of horses and riders in a narrow lane which we had just entered,
the ladies were very friendly - this might be due to the 'Keep your BULL**** in Westminster' sticker on the windscreen (Since taken off)
as they're all hunting, shooting and fishing types down there.

More traffic.

We all had a damage free trip on the first day, 60 miles or so, we even dipped into Devon for a few lanes and went to see Simon at Devon 4X4
(Still didn't have the bumper Peter ordered - Though we got the tour and the chat). Days end and we retired to the hotel bar for a hearty feast
and plenty of beer - No quad's on the road or Police.
Second day on the road saw a trip to the Quantocks, similar stuff tough not so rocky. Quite a good run over the ridges, 2 long tracks (Pity
about the Walkers and Mountain Bikers - no problems though). We swung down near the coast for a little wading (A 50m long food/village street,
a road actually uses the small river course, with a raised path beside), then a quick trip to Exmoor Trim where Peter picked up a lumber support pump.

Sheeeeeeeeeep!

Later in the day we squeezed down a few lanes near Bridgwater, the Badgers has done there best to block up a few lanes, kicking out spoil
heaps about a 3 foot high in 6 foot wide lanes, with overhanging trees. We managed to get trough, but Adam and I gained a few charater scars
in our roofs - Ouch
Back to camp site via Stoney Lane (Gated lane) for a rock crawl to the top. I then packed up for a night drive home (My son Jacob's 2nd birthday the next day)
Hope those that went had a good time, thanks to Tom for map reading.
